I was in the bathroom, doin my business, and I thought I was done, so I wiped myself clean. but I wasn’t done. I had to “drop off one more kid at the pool,” aka “baptize a brown baby” aka “launch a missile” aka “make some brownies” aka “release the hostage” Any more torpedoes? No. Ok. Clean up…oh no! not finished! Was all that wiping for nothing?
Sometimes our “repentance” is like that – like crap. – and all that wiping’s for nothing. It doesn’t matter how much you cry if you don’t walk in obedience. Repentance means crap isn’t going to come out again. It’s a done deal; you’re gonna stop. If you crap as soon as you clean up, that repentance is a lie. It doesn’t mean you’re never gonna crap again, or else true repentance doesn’t exist until we’re eschatologically perfected. No. Repentance doesn’t mean you’ll never ever do it again, but that you’re finished with that crap and turning away. You put your pants on and flush the sin down the toilet. To crap again months later doesn’t mean you didn’t truly repent. It’s just time to repent again. and sanctification means that the trip to the metaphysical bathroom occurs less and less…and on our glorification at the Day of the Lord, no more crap!
